Consumer Reports has an excellent article on wireless carriers and cell
phones in its February issue.  Verizon was rated the highest followed in
descending order by T Mobile, Sprint, Cingular/AT&t, and Nextel.  This seems
to confirm my own personal experience as well.  My wife has Verizon and is
happy with it, I have a Nextel at work and it sucks, although the
walkie-talkie mode is convenient.

The more romantically inclined backpackers will be happy to hear that
condoms are rated in the same issue.  Don't laugh, they can multi-task as
emergency water containers, non-lubricated variety of course.  See
