[BULK] - Re: [pct-l] how's the air?

I knew I'd get a rise outta that! ;)

Actually, the air quality has been rather good these past couple months!
Especially after the recent weather that moved through...

I wish I had my camera ready this morning as I headed out to a meeting.
I was north bound on a local toll road that crests a high hill (Strider,
I've got a geology question I want to ask you off-line on this...),
beyond were the gleaming peaks of the San Gabriel's shining in the early
morning sunlight, covered in snow! It was a spectacular sight.

But, yes. I'll concede that we do have some problems with smog here.
Just a small part of the price we pay for attracting so many people to
live here.
Between the Rose Parade and the Beach Boys, we get some significant
PR...

But, as for the air on my commute, as soon as they re-open the 74
between my home and The OC, I'll post a few pics of my morning commute
through the Cleveland National Forest! Though I drive over an hour to
get to work, the scenery ain't that bad! And the air is clean with that
wilderness aroma, at least before I get to the other side of the
mountain. This particular stretch of mountain road attracts quite a few
people each weekend just to experience the drive recreationally! But,
it's closed now due to a few slides...so I'm forced to detour south and
then swing north on the I-5 and cruise up the coastline between
Oceanside and San Juan Capistrano....yep, the scenery ain't too shabby!

Now, just to keep this thread on-topic: From the northeast face of the
Santa Ana mountains along highway 74, as I begin my morning commute, I
get a great view of where I last left the PCT! I can see the San Jacinto
and San Bernardino ranges and the peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio
staring each other down across the Banning Pass!
Always a little reminder that the PCT is waiting for me to return...
