Chuckie -- the website for the Badwater Ultra Marathon (from the bottom to the top) says it's 135 miles from Badwater to Whitney Portal; the summit of Whitney is another 11 miles up the Whitney Portal Trail.

I have heard that it is around 80 miles also. there are at least two
foot races from death valley to the whitney portal. i beleive they are
advertized as 135 miles, but measured on roads, of course.
