There were some packers out of Onion Valley last year.  The stables
were by the campground.  They would meet hikers at Upper Vidette. 
Kersage is quite an easy pass.  You can camp out right at Kersage
Lake go over the pass lite pick up at the PO in Independence and be
back in the afternoon.
easy hitch to Independence from Onion Valley (and back). I didn't
have the same luck on 395.  Several hours in the HEAT.

Not a whole lot of stuff at the store there though. No alcohol.  They
had a bunch at the pack station that people had left behind.  If you
are desparate check with them.
