Keep in mind that Mammoth is on the other side of the hill from Reds  
Meadow. There's a Safeway in town (or some large grocery store). Hitch  
a ride and you could be there and back in a couple of hours. And while  
you're in Mammoth you should stop by Bergers for lunch.
