[pct-l] pack fabric

I'm thinking about making some lightweight packs for the goats and need input as to what the best material might be.
I looked at Backpack Gear Test but it doesn't really address the qualities I need in a pack material. Goat Packs are usually made of 1000 denier Cordura and weigh about 3-4 pounds. (They have very large long zippers and lots of buckles) I usually carry about a 20-25 pound load per 2 panniers, one on each side of the goat. So, each pannier would only carry about the same as a single lightweight pack would carry. My gear is similar to a lightweight backpacker's gear.

*Lightweight-obviously
*Abrasion resistance-Most important--something on the order of off trail use, since the goats are hit with more brush than a human's pack would be.
*Water resistant-optional
*Easy to sew-I have a professional seamstress available but she mostly works with Cordura. Don't know how much different some of the lighter fabrics are to sew on.
*Seam and edge stability-I don't want stuff that will come unravelled easily. I don't mind adding french seams or burning edges, though.

Any thoughts?
