Eric i live in San Diego and flew from Seattle back in 2002. A last minute
flight on Southwest was $199, But if you buy 3 weeks ahead ya probably will
get a discount of up to half. At southwest.com you can sign up for their
discount notices. When i flew back 2003 I booked ahead and paid $99
Determining the exact date I'll be coming home is the tough part for me.
Since I'm a section hiker I've made the trip back and forth from the
northwest a number of times . Ive found Amtrak to be a cheap and often the
easiest way to get to the trail or home from N. Ca and S. Ore. This summer I
was let off at the trail by the Amtrak shuttle at Hwy 140 in Ore. Talk
about service.
If you fly and the weather is clear try to get a daylight flight. Its a trip
looking down at the landmarks it took so long to get to . Raineer and
Crater Lake brought back a bunch of emotions.
A side note I found that my clothes and specifically shoes were just too
rude smelling for me to inflict on others. Iwas able too buy some stuff
downtown Seattle. I got some great deals at Nordstom off the rack store $45
for shoes, shirt and pants that I still wear today . There are also some
thrift stores, thats what i did in Redding on my way home this year. I hate
when people end their sniffing of the air with a cold stare at me,
especially a group of 'em. And its one thing to hitch a ride and be able to
roll down windows its another to be in close proximity for hours with no
windows.
