[pct-l] Belden Vicinity

I recently walked in Section M from Quincy-LaPorte Road to Belden. Here are
some things that may be useful for future hikers in that area.

1. The phone number given for Belden Town Resort in the Pacific Crest Trail
Data Book is no longer correct. It now belongs to another "resort" about 8
miles west of Belden on Highway 70. To make matters worse, they don't
always answer their phone identifying who they are! Beware, you may reserve
a cabin or bunk someplace other than where you think.

2. About 1.5 miles East of Belden Town bridge along Highway 70 is Caribou
Road (just past a bridge). At the intersection is Caribou Campground. This
is a small private RV campground, but they are very friendly and hospitable
to hikers. They even maintain a sign-in notebook in the restaurant. We can
vouch for excellent hamburgers and milk shakes and they stock a wide
variety of snack food. They also have a dinner menu. Breakfast was also
very good. They also have laundry facilities and showers which they are
happy to let you use each for a nominal charge. We ended up camping there
in an RV space for not much more than showers for all of us would have cost
separately, and we had the use of real toilet facilities and the showers
all night. There is other camping available a little ways up Caribou Road
if you don't want to camp in a parking lot. There is a Forest Service fee
campground and we were told that before you get to it, you can camp on PG&E
land between Caribou Road and the river for free. (That is OK with PG&E, we
were told.)
