[pct-l] Red ' s Meadow to Mammoth Lakes transport

To and from Mammoth Lakes proper ( the town ) and the base of the ski mountain take the " bicycle bus " - from there take the normal ( only ) shuttle bus to Red 's Meadow which doesn ' t / won ' t take you to and from town - ski area and town are several miles apart ( of forest / empty road )  So . . . two buses . Strictly speaking the ' bicycle ' bus from M Lakes to the ski area is only for bicyclists but I had no problem using it - once I merely got on and rode unchallenged and the other time when the driver learned I was through hiking the PCT she made a big fuss over me / that , so no problem . But you must change buses - go on a second bus / ride , if you want to go all the way to M L proper ( downtown , so to speak  ) from Red 's Meadow . ( Saw a bear ambling along , ' downtown ' - on Old Mammoth Lakes Road near the shops when we were there in early July . ) Rafter JackFrom judson at jeffnet.org  Sat Jul 31 12:07:59 2004

What experience do people have with GVP packs? Which are more widely
preferred, GVP or Golite?
