[pct-l] George Lake

Good morning, Mike,

I have not visited George Lake, but it appears on the quads and I remember
that area of the PCT. The PCT crosses a substantially flat lava flow
generally north from the Belknap Crater area, and when it reaches and begins
to ascend the SE flank of Mt. Washington it turns sharply to the west. At
that point I believe the very summit of Mt. Washington can still be seen
through the trees bearing 327.6 deg T. George Lake is on that bearing at
0.7 miles about 350 ft. higher in elevation just over a low ridge . The
grade is about +18% on that bearing. I see the south edge of the lake to be
N44.31873 W121.82634. That area should be fairly open for cross-country
travel. It is probably above the lava, and fairly free of thick underbrush.

I won't say, "you can't miss it" because there are people out there who
couldn't find a circus tent if it was more than 50 ft. from the trail.

Anyway, enjoy the search.

Steel-Eye
