[pct-l] Re: PCT advice

Good evening, Ken,

A number of hikers I know like to "camel up" as you do, but I have never
been very successful at it. I do not really like the over-full feeling of
drinking all of the water that I can possibly hold down, and I do not object
to warm water from a bottle. What I find is that my body is a very "leaky"
canteen. Long before I really need to use the extra water, I have to step
behind a bush and pour it on the ground. I prefer to carry the extra liter
or so in a bottle to use at a somewhat less wasteful discretion.

There is another caution for the "camel up" crew: When excess water is
excreted it carries with it some of the body's electrolytes, such as sodium
and potassium. Electrolyte balance is a concern for athletes, and it would
be wise to consume additional quantities of these elements when "cameling".

Drink up!

Steel-Eye
