[pct-l] Re: PCT advice

It isn't the just the weight of the filter vs the weight of the iodine. I
can get rid of the iodine taste, so that isn't an issue.

I carry a filter and "camel up" when I get to water. Then I pump another
bottle (or two) to get to the next water. If I use iodine I treat the water
and carry the water for a mile before I get to drink it. By that time it is
no longer the cool 42 degrees that it came from the spring, but much warmer.
I cannot drink as much warm water. It just sits in my stomach and sloshes
when I walk. What I find is that I drink more water if I drink immediately
after pumping and I don't have to carry the weight of the water for a mile
while it is being treated.

We went through this whole scenario on the Hundred Mile Wilderness on the AT
last fall. I am not sure which way is lighter, but I know the water tastes
better when I pump and drink.
