[pct-l] Re:

Hi Mike we left WS at the CDF station at 10:00 the first day was hot!!!
didn't need water when we crossed 79 the 2nd time but by the time we climbed
up and up we needed a lot. Bryan went down to lost spring and brought back 2
gallons He said the spring was very dirty and full of bugs. My "Mini Works"
works wonders, water tasted fine and we are not dead. From the beginning it
was hot and seemed to be up hill the whole way. I believe we only made about
9 miles the first day we crashed around 5 pm. In the morning there was so
much fog you could only see about 50ft in front of you. We started at 6:22
and were drenched from the waste down in the first 15 minutes. We made it to
lost rd or chihuahua v rd. which ever in the first 2 hours. We topped off
there. Thanks to those who cache water. We continued on praying for the, yes
the SUN. We were dry by noon and looking at what looked like the longest
trail through a burn area that we have done. Again after a long hot walk we
were in need of water. We went down to tule spring which again my "Mini
Works" worked . We filled both our platys and 8 bottles. That water tasted
sweet. We are still alive. From there we went on and camped in a canyon
under a cotton wood tree, looking at the next mornings straight up hike.
Again it was very hot. Sunday morning we left our camp site at 5:30, Again
we were way down on water and blessed by the hikers oasis. We actually got
to the truck at 1:05 pm , how we made it, I'm not sure, must have been
"God", It was long Hot cold wet and "Great" . P.S. When we got back to
the truck, parked at the PCT parking area on Hwy 74 there was 55cents on my
drivers side mirror?? Any answers?? Ground Pounder

Hey, Bill! I wish I could go with you, but I'm taking the family to Mexico
for the holiday weekend.
Warner to 74? That's 43 miles...
Going to do it in two days? Three days?

Check out:
http://www.4jeffrey.net/pctwater

this is Bill (AsABat) Jefferie's water info website.

Going with Brian? Anybody else?

If I were you, I'd do this in at least 3 days. I know you can do a 20 mile
day, but two of them back-to-back would be a little different.

I also know that, once you get above Warner Springs, the terrain starts to
look a lot like the San Felipe Hills again...
There are a few places to cache your own water along the way: Cihuahua Road.
Tewilliger Road. Check the maps. Consider caching not only water, but maybe
even your overnight gear. If you get a chance to shuttle cars, maybe find a
way to keep all your overnight gear and a cooler of food in your truck and
doing the 43 miles with just a day pack.
Try to drive your truck as far into the hills and as close to the PCT as you
can get.
Carry a USGS topo map. Have a contingency plan to get off the trail in case
there's an emergency. You'll probably have cell service once you get near
Anza.

Be careful and have fun! I'll catch up!
