Unless . . .
You may want to consider going old school! Then buy the biggest damn
external frame pack that you can (6500 ci?) with all of the bells and whistles.
Then strap on that 4 pound-two-man-pup tent and a 5 pound Polarguard 15 degree
bag. Throw in your Svea stove and three weeks worth of fuel. Add six four-man
dehydrated-prepackaged dinners, two pounds of gorp, sixteen hot chocolate
packets, a box of Wheaties, a box of Graham crackers and a container of peanut
butter and one of jelly. A Sierra cup and a steel quart pot with knife, spoon and
fork are needed. A pound of good stuff in your first aid kit. A repair kit
for the pack, tent and stove. A full down jacket, a long sleeve wool shirt,
one pair of blue jeans and two pair of wool socks. Then fill the rest of the
pack with fresh oranges, which of course, you will eat as fast as you can in
order to lighten your pack quickly!
Total base weight: 45 pounds! (hee, hee, hee, hee! ;-)

P.S. This is a joke, but not so very far from what we 1977'ers carried back
when the PCT was considered to be an expedition!
