[pct-l] Right pack for a thru-hike.

The right pack is the pack that is right for you. HYOH (Hike Your Own Hike).

That said, most thru-hikers use a much lighter pack. If you can get your
total pack weight in the mid-20's, there are a number of packs that weigh a
pound or so that are very popular on the trail. Besides the advice you get
here, I'd suggest checking the archives at BackpackingLight
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/backpackinglight) and the frameless pack
reviews at BackpackGearTest (www.backpackgeartest.org) .

Without making any judgement, there was a hiker at the ADZPCTKO who left
Mexico carrying 75 pounds. Arriving at Lake Morena, he got a ride to town to
replace "everything." Carrying extra weight it fine on shorter trips with
low mileage days, but carrying unnecessary weight can take the fun out of
multiple 20-plus mile days.
