[pct-l] Re: Map question, and ice axes along the PCT

Hey Shawn,

Maps. All you'll need for traveling the PCT is the guidebooks, don't leave home without'em. Get
the data book as well, you will find this the most useful piece of navigation equipment you have.
Example, you will repeatedly ask yourself, "How far to the next water source?" The
databook is your best friend.

In a normal/low snow year KM is the appropriate place to send your ice axe/ cold weather gear.

With that said, you *need* to be prepared for cold weather even in SoCal. In '02 it was low 20's
on Mt. Laguna on May 2 and on May 21 an ice-storm hit Baden-Powell with the same low temps for
2-3 nights.

I managed with mid-weight thermals, but had it gotten any colder something warmer would have
been nice.

So it's up to you, it's a judgment call you have to be comfortable with.

Hope that helps,
Scott Parks
