[pct-l] That %$#*&^ BackPacker Mag!!!

This month's issue of Backpacker has a cover story on Hiking and Paddling Lake Powell!! This has been my " Pre Kick-Off" trip planned for months and now the whole world will be there!!
Actually, there's a lot of area to go around there and Lake levels are down a record 100 feet. All the lucky folks who got to see Glen Canyon in 1963 before it became a haven for " Drunks and Houseboats" can again see canyons as they were in pre-flooded era. ( Maybe even find a few pairs of sunglasses left the house boat crowds)
Glen Canyon /Lake Powell area is a good place to do a pre-PCT training trip, see some cool ruins, native art work and pick up a few empty bottles of " Crown Royal" from the sands of the departed waters!!
Lone Rock Beach is a haven each summer of spoiled rich kids cramped dome tent to dome tent along the shore on all major holidays with the high pitch wine of jet skis, hot ski boats, obnoxious dogs and their even more obnoxious owners ( you know the type!!) giggles from gals saying, " I'm drunk" Tee Hee, Tee Hee. This is a good thing as 95 percent of Powell's Crowd is locked on 5 percent of the shoreline leaving 95 percent of the lake to 5 percent to someone who's idea of adventure is more than " Drink till you drop".
The Backpacker Article is really quite good and worth your time to read! ( Once for get by all the " REI is Walmart is a Flannel Shirt" ads and such!!!!!!!!!) Mad Monte
