Another good reason to enter the Sierra when there is just a little bit of 
snow still on the ground and ice at the passes, is you get the first opportunity 
to throw a hook into those lakes where the trout have been waiting all winter 
for the ice to melt off so something would fall onto the water for them to 
eat.  Try throwing a bare hook into a lake that is three quarters frozen over.  
Yum, yum.
