So that if I want to make a base camp while alpine climbing I can leave the
tent, hang some food and go cross country to places where there wouldn't be
room for a tent. Also the bivvy has come in handy during major moisture problems
where the rain insisted on sharing my tent with me. Otherwise, I admit it is
overkill.
As for my pack, it only weighs four pounds when I need all 4 pockets for a
9 dayer.
I'm keeping an open mind when it comes to the pack and tent. I honestly
think I have bottomed out on the clothing for a 9 day alpine backpack, except
for maybe a few ounces.
