[pct-l] camera

I've been looking at that camera as well - it definitely has some nice
features for backpacking. Namely small size and weight, water-resistance
and normal batteries (CR-V3 or AA). I researched the subject thoroughly
and the Pentax is the only digital camera out there right now with those
features.

I used a water resistant camera in California in '02 and never worried
on the few occasions when it rained. However I still worry that a $300
digital camera will get trashed for some reason on my trip. But factor
in the ongoing cost of film and developing for film cameras and it is
hard to find a clear winner.

Since I already have it, I think I will be sticking to my $80 Olympus
Stylus Epic 35mm "beater." When I get my rolls developed I have them
scan the negatives and burn them on to a CD. I also don't have to worry
about a better 35mm compact camera coming out next year (or perhaps
ever!).

You can see some samples from my camera:

I'm thinking of getting a Pentax Optio 33 WR digital camera. It looks
like a good one for hiking.
