One of my partners used one on the CDT and it didn't look all that 
comfortable since he was a pretty big guy and had to leave most of his gear outside.  
While a free standing tent may solve the no stake issue, they tend to blow away 
when not staked.  Tents like the Nomadlite and Europa II only need three or 
four stakes, are lighter and offer more room.
