Regarding the question about TYPES OF MUSIC PLAYERS:
If I decide to carry music on the trail this year, I
will bring my Sony Walkman, old school cassette player
and all. It's 7 yrs old and hiked most of the AT
with me, has played a million songs, been dropped 20
times on rocks, is caked with dirt, and it lives. How
could I abandon it? (it has TV reception, which is
handy for weather, but otherwise, I never have the
desire to listen to TV on the trail as I do music, and
could rarely get TV on the AT, so I doubt it is on the
more remote PCT)
Regarding the WEIGHT OF ESBITS: one esbit tab, which
is enough to cook dinner and heat water for hot cocoa
for one person, weighs only 0.5 oz. So, 4 ounces of
Esbit tabs = 8 of them, or 8 meals plus some.
