Exactly. It is easy to avoid "no wood fires" zones. But as long as there is
no high fire danger restrictions a reasonable back country ranger would most
likely be persuaded to let it go if you gathered your twigs below 10,000' or
whatever the restriction is. Just be honest about it. I wouldn't push it with an
open fire, though
Personally, I like camping low anyway so I CAN have a campfire and get out
of the wind and chill. Bugs can be a problem in bug season but they hate smoke
as much as we do and I amuse myself by catching and tossing them into the
fire! Pretty cruel, huh.
