There's definitely a weight/durability/cost tradeoff with most parkas on
the market. I have a North Face parka that's perfect after 12 years, but
I don't take it backpacking anymore due to its weight. At the same time,
I never use my Precip for anything but backpacking since I don't want to
wear it out unnecessarily. If I can get several hundred wet trail miles
out of my Precip, at $99, I'll be happy.
