Your plan sounds good as far as hiking without snow-late June northbound 
being preferable. However the mosquito hatch closely follows the snow melt so you 
will likely have mosquito problems most of the way. I think a post July 20 
northbound would be much better. I went through in September and had no bugs at 
all
