I went out over Cottonwood...shorter still than Kearsarge.  Hitching to Lone 
Pine is relatively easy, supplies are better.  I carried 7 days food, made it 
to VVR, bought enough for two days to Red's Meadows, bought enough to get to 
Tuolumne.
