Was I absolutely certain that bad food was the problem?
Definitely not. You're right, it could be something
entirely different.

That fact that 2 of us had the same problem, we 
stopped eating these things and it stopped. We did
not share meals, I filtered water, my partner used Aqua Mira, while in Mojave we did not share lodging, 
but we did eat at the same places twice, though, with
other hikers.

Again, this does not make it fact. On the trail without
the means to determine exactly the nature, my statement
is made with my meager amount of common sense. :)
