[pct-l] Net Tents

Ron has preached the benefits of making one's own
gear and with good reason.

I completely agree. If your gear is part of your
journey, then a sewing machine, experience and your
imagination makes great items during you planning.

An alternative to net tents.

Humans seem to have this notion that they must
'control' their space. This is great for manufacturers
to sell large cavernous tents.

The same applies to net tents. Ask yourself, "Why do
I need to keep so much space bug-free?". Well, you
don't.

When you buy a wind suit, buy one that is impervious
to mosquitos. GoLite sells a fabulous one (shameless
plug). Together with a head-net, balaclava, gloves
you have very effective bug protection.

Your activities are not restricted in any way. If you
are going to linger in one spot for days, heck, bring
the the cavernous tent. But for long distance hikers,
just bring you tarp and leave the net tent at home,
because you're just going to sleep anyways.
