It's a great place to start.But can be kinda tough climb outta Castella if 
it's hot. I took train to Dunsmuir about 5 mi. to trail. Started late July 
last year didn't quite make it  to Stehekin. Firecreek Pass had enough snow 
early Oct. to send my panty-waist home.
