I'm sorry, but comparing hiking to town stops is like comparing apples and
oranges -- each has its own flavor and why enjoy just one. I was glad to get
into town, I was just as glad to leave and get back on the trail. I loved
being just an observer in town with the freedom to leave, not being tied
down. THAT is what I enjoyed most about the Journey - the freedom to plan my
day as I saw fit, week after week and the endless discovery along the way,
each day quite different from the next.
As for trail angels, it works both ways: they do you a favor and you return
it by letting them help you. It would be rude not to let people help when
they want to. They are the ones who benefit most, for it is better to give
than to receive. It is good to know someone got something from my hike
besides just me.
