 Thanks to all the great folks at the kick-off party last weekend! Had a
great time and always happy to see old friends and meet the 2003 thru-hiker
crowd.
  The kick-off gathering is as grassroots as it gets. Where else can you
guide book authors, pack designers, trail angels and thru-hikers all sharing
a burger under a tree 10 feet from the PCT!!! Only problem is that time goes
too fast . It is amazing how many good ideas come out of this gathering with
regard to gear. Many ideas from the gear contest become standards on the
trail within a year. ( Of course , Greg's hiking  pole / combo fishing pole
may need a few more bugs removed to make it into the mainstream hiker
comunity!!!!!!) Monte
