[pct-l] crampons, ice axes - Sonora Pass



Depends on when you hike. In 2000, Sonora Pass still had some short sections
with snow and some very steep slopes. Had it been icy, I would have loved to
have the ice axe. But, a good  pole would have worked, too. Only, there
aren't any up there. So, if you use a hiking pole, that works fine.
Otherwise, in the normal through hiking season, there are no problems with
snow or ice. Note: this is the same situation with the Goat Rocks in
Washington - one short section that could be dangerous. Virtually no one
carries an ice axe.
