I have not seen anyone post this suggestion, so here it goes.
If you have fungus or other localized problems while on your hike,
consider UV exposure. If I found a secluded spot a few times a week and
gave my high-risk area a few minutes of direct sunlight, I had no
problems with fungus on my 2002 thru-hike. The very act of letting that
area breathe may have also contributed.
At first I found it hard to find a reason to split with my fellow
hikers. Then I just said, "I'm going over that way to be alone for
about 10 minutes." Nobody cared.
If my online tact is too vague, email me off list. I can only speak as
a guy, of course.
See you at the Kick Off!!!!
