[pct-l] Early European Thru Hikers
Being a former Texas History Teacher, I know the wanderings of Mr. Cowhead
very well :)
I actually prefer the wanderings of Francisco Coronado. He covered more
territory and much more interesting territory. All the way from Northern
Mexico to Missouri/Kansas. First people to see the Grand Canyon (Europeans
that is) and Palo Duro Canyon. Of course he led a full fledged expedition
with hundreds of people and lots of livestock.
Cabeza was with a couple of his buddies and had spent time with the
Karawanka in Texas, a very unpleasant group of Natives, even by Native
standards.
Both of them spent far too much time 'hiking' Texas in the summer time,
though I am not sure which one had the worse route. De Vaca had the coast
and central texas, so lots of water, but Northern Mexico is another story.
