[pct-l] Logging this summer in southern Washington

Read this article about a timber sale the Washington State Dept. of Natura=
l Resources is doing this summer along the PCT right next to Three Corner R=
ock, just north of the Columbia River. http://www.columbian.com/03072003/c=
lark_co/17847.html

"During logging, trees will be felled away from the trail where possible, a=
nd logging near the trail will be suspended from Aug. 1 through Labor Day, =
which is prime hiking season. At other times, warning signs will be posted =
to warn hikers of active logging. " Supposedly they will only be thinning =
and not clear-cutting. But the article states they will dragging logs acro=
ss the trail and possibly cutting trees right up to the trail. Ouch! Remi=
nds me of Section O in California!

The DNR is accepting comments through today only. Comments on the Upper Si=
bley thinning timber sale will be accepted through Tuesday and should be ma=
iled to Ray Lasmanis, Washington Department of Natural Resources, P.O. Box =
280, Castle Rock, WA 98611-0280. The telephone number is 360-577-2025. If =
you can, please call in your comments today!

? nothing said about this on their website or this list,i just joined the =
p=2Ec.t.a. last week so i havent had a chance to get a copy of the newslett=
er so i don`t know if it was mentioned there or not.even if it was, you guy=
s(p.c.t.a.) need to get the word out to everyone who will listen,i am pig b=
iting mad i had to learn about this in the morning paper, and find out i ha=
ve no recorce, when with a little advance notice i could of been involved.
i don`t want to put the p.c.t.a. down,esspecially in this time of a enviorm=
ently unfriendly adminastration, but you know what? to help the trail you ne=
ed to get people involved, not just members but everyone you can reach. i t=
