Interestingly enough, a "cyst" filter would have done you NO GOOD at this
cow pond.

Cows, horses and other herbivores don't carry giardia. You would have
needed a bacteria filter capable of removing coliform bacteria to do any good.

Most of the cheap, easy to pump filters don't remove bacteria (or viruses).
However, they **DO** make you **FEEL** safe, and that is worth something.
