[pct-l] tent

"...let's hear it for good old tents. "

I'm with you, JoAnn - our Sierra Design Meteor Light's been going strong
since we bought it in mid-94 at Mammoth, having given up on a bombproof but
heavy & awkward North Face Arrowhead. At the ADZ last year we found that
the bottom leaked - and for $60 SD sent us a new body - far easier than
trying to fix it ourselves. (I wish it was that easy for my
tendinitis-prone, creaky human one!). The Meteor Light's a modified dome,
and is perfect for the two of us - enough room for our gear and keeps the
weather & bugs out. Okay, so it's 6 lbs or so, but split between 2 people
it's not bad, & we make up for the weight with a polarguard 3D quilt &
lighter packs - 'tho not as light as the silnylon ones. It's our home in
the mountains, pitchable most places, and hard to trade for a tarp. (you
know, "with all due respect" to tarp users, etc, etc, etc....)

...but I'm still intrigued with all the cottage-industry alternatives out
there.

...let's hear it for good old tents. IMHO!! I have four and am proud of it.
I'll be using my Sierra Design Ultra Light Year this spring in Section A.
Ask any turtle, they know the value of taking their "house" with them :)
