If you race with 10 guys to see who can get to Canada first, 9 of you are going to be disappointed. To me the ONLY bad reason to hike the PCT is to be first. It would be so incredibly distracting, reminding me of what I was trying to forget -- it's a dog eat dog world out there -- especially in Capitalist societies. How nice to leave it all behind for 6 months.
