well, i agree with the old bandana baseball hat trick and would like to add in
the wet you head at any and all water sources technique. when i was in the
deserts of southwest texas and arizona this worked well for me. i actually had
this clothe fishing hat sort of thing that was very squishable so that it took
up no room in the pack and was really light (not sure how light) but
nonetheless had a brim all the way around, unlike a baseball hat. i loved it,
just picked it up in some random hat store in virginia for five dollars. super
low-tech i know, but i'm a low-tech kind of gal and though i have yet (YET) to
trek through the mojave, it was adequate in the chihuahua and sonoran deserts.
