On a slick, hard surface, like a sidewalk, the Stabilicers (1lb+) are definitely the better product, although much heavier and more expensive than the Yaktrax (3oz).
However, on a softer snowy surface, I imagine both would just get a bunch of snow caked around the cleats and become useless.
This is NOT a sales pitch for REI, I promise, but here's the links to look at both and compare:
http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=2867694&parent_category_rn=12221603
http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=2029&parent_category_rn=12221603
Also, note that you can buy lightweight (7oz), instep crampons that are less expensive than the Stabilicers and would most likely work better:

To prove that I am not trying to get anyone to buy REI stuff here is another link to a backpacker.com comparison of instep crampons:

I'm thinking I will wait until right before going to decide if I'm going to bring anything besides my ice axe.

Although I haven't tried either, I've seen both, and the stabalizers appear
the much, better product. They're better built and cleated. Yatrax look
like toys for kids.
Either one will probably end up being tried once, then carried until you feel
safe enough to send them home. A waste of money and extra weight, if you ask
me.
