Hi there,
Well I intended to let all these messages about paying for rescue
go by me and not get involved. Well I didn't and here is my point of view.
Did I have a California Fishing License when I was rescued on the PCT trail=
with a broken leg. Hell NO, I was rescued on the third day by the Riversid=
e mountain rescue group of volunteers, who take pride in their work. I had =
everything I needed to make myself comfortable on the trail with the except=
ion of water. I was about 5 miles from my next water supply and did not ha=
ve too much left when I fell.
I also have a son who is the current Chairman of Seattle Mountain Rescue gr=
oup. He has been doing this for about twenty years. They are
all volunteers and they raise money for their equipment needs by having fun=
d raisers. He has been involved in hundreds and hundreds of rescues in the =
local mountains as well as on Mt. Rainier and Mt. Hood and anyplace they ar=
e called out to go. And GO they do, wherever needed.
Yes, I sent a donation to the Riverside Mtn. Rescue Group as well as a few =
other members of my family. I think if you talked to any of these
people they would give a different point of view than you all, or the parks=
service. They are very proud of what they do. Even though the park servic=
e have their own Rescue groups now, they will still call on the volunteer g=
roups as needed.
Well did I finish my rant, not quite, but am trying to be polite.
Cheers,
Marge (the Old Gal)
