[pct-l] Lightweight backpacks

Howdy listers,
I've been off the list for a year or so.  I live near Palm Springs and
can see the Desert Divide portion of the trail from my office window.  I
used to post snow updates by looking out the window.  8^) Temp's are
down enough that I'm doing some day hikes and started thinking about
doing some overnighters.  Anyway, I'm looking for a lightweight backpack
for lightweight camping.  Somewhere between 3000 and 4000 cu. inches
with a hip belt (though it can be slight).  Suspension - minimal or
none.  What are the latest offerings?  Hopefully not TOO expensive.  Any
sew-it-yourself plans (and fabric recommendations)?
