[pct-l] PCT old growth to be logged
Save the Old Growth Trees!
For the 2nd time in as many weeks groups hiked the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) south
out of Sierra City, CA, to call attention to the danger threatening several small
areas of ancient forest along the PCT as it follows Milton Creek toward Jackson
Meadows. Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) has already begun the logging according
to its Timber Harvest Plan to cut trees (mostly by the selection method) on 2880
acres of its land in this area. Concerned citizens are circulating petitions
asking SPI to please save the Old Growth - never been harvested areas along the
PCT - from the chain saw. They also are concerned about protecting the Milton
Creek watershed. Years ago SPI graciously gave the easement for the PCT through
this unique land. Now people are asking that the company save the trees along the
path of the PCT so that future generations may enjoy these magnificent trees along
the trail.
I'm posting pictures at http://yubawatershed.org. There are some pictures from
our last 2 hikes, as well as some information about the cut.
Please help in any way you can.
Thanks
Thomas
