[pct-l] Pre-Trip Training!!

As a pro at pre-trip training, here are a few tips that I live by!! First,
Don't walk at all before any major trip!! This allows your body to store
large amounts of fat for reserves on the trail. Second rule is to down about
a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream before bed each night 4 month before your
start date to allow your body to " Carb Up" for your big adventure. Third ,
Take an aspin a day when you do start to hike so your heart doesn't " Freeze
Up" from the sudden amount of work you put it to! Carry 5 feet of duct tape
per day for your baby soft feet for blister repair!!! ( OK, just joking, yes
it's nice to pre-train for your trip, but that isn't always possible!!!) Many
folks start this trail " Big Enough to Butcher" , but after two weeks , your
body will adjust. If you can train ahead of time, great and your break in
time will be less. If you start out a little out of shape, just go a little
slower the first few weeks. I've been on both sides of the fence on this one!
Your pre-training is nice if you have time, please do get out and do some
hills with weight in your pack. If not , go 5 miles a day or whatever at the
start of your PCT trip. We were all 25 y/0 once and lean and mean!! I know as
time goes by and I am a little less fit and trim, ( or in my case , alot less
fit and trim!) I will still enjoy the trail at a slower pace and may need
alittle longer " Break In" period. Don't sweat Pre-Training, just do what
you can!!
