[pct-l] Entering the US on thePCT
Matti,
I think there have been numerous people hiking the PCT North to South. When
You get on the
trail at Manning Park, that is it, you are on the Trail all the way to
Mexico. There are
no authorities to check, however you do need a trip permit which you can get
from the PCTA
office at least several weeks prior to your start
Now you do
not say what kind of visa you have for the USA or Canada, maybe from Germany
you do not need
to have visas for either country. Also do you have a current passport? You
also do not say how you plan to return to
Germany, either via USA or Canada. Getting back into Canada maybe a little
sticky if you
do not have a passport.
Also you do not say what date you plan to start this southbound hike. This
current year, the
snow pack in the State of Washington is about 150 percent over normal. I am
doing a section
hike Rainy Pass to Manning Park and I am doing this in mid August and hope
the snow will
be gone to the point where I do not need ice axe or crampons.
Hope this helps,
Marge (the old gal)

Hallo
I'm planning a southbound hike this year.
I come from Germany and I will arrive in Vancouver Canada and I'm planning
to start in Manning Park...
My problem is I can't find anything on entering the US on the PCT wether or
not it is legal or not???
I couldn't find anything on www.pcta.org
and the guidebook does not help.
I know most of the people are northbounders but hey isen't there anyone who
has done it southbound(???), who could help or tell me about his
experiences.
Grüße Matti
