[pct-l] ADZPCTKO Gear contest

The gear contest at this year's ADZPCTKO on April 27th
will have a new category, the G-FORCE award, (Gear FOR
Cruising Effortlessly) with a wonderful, amazing,
outstanding prize of priceless value. The winner will
receive a pre-release G5 pack by GVP Gear, weighing in
under 6 ounces while providing over 3,000 cubic inches
and a hip belt. It will be personally autographed and
authenticated by the creator (Glen VanPeski) and by
the first Calendar Year Triple Crown hiker (Brian
Robinson).

The concept is to select the most excellent complete
system of gear including everything carried and worn
to start a PCT through hike at the kick off.
Expendables such as food water and fuel will not be
included. In keeping with established tradition
judging will be completely subjective based solely on
the judges' opinion (whim) of which system the judges
would chose for themselves. However, given the
analytical (anal) nature of the judges and their
tendency toward a minimalist approach, contestants
should not be surprised to have their entries
carefully (obsessively) weighed or to be asked to
demonstrate the effectiveness of their shelter in a
simulated rain storm. A poncho will be provided for
modesty during the skin out weighing.

The judges will be Brian Robinson, Glen VanPeski, and
Read Miller. Some of these guys seem to think that
Jardine has some good ideas but is carrying to much
weight. On the outside chance that some gear geeks are
in attendance, Brian will display his Triple Crown
equipment, Glen his 5.5 pound base weight system, and
Read his over the shoulder Hobo system.

Due to the length of time that evaluation of each
contestant's system is likely to take, contestants are
urged to submit their entries for the judge's scrutiny
as early in the day, Saturday, April 27th as
reasonable. The prize winner will be announced at the
holding of the AGPLDHG&IR later in the day and will be
requested to exhibit the system to the sophisticated
ADZ crowd.
