> the short answer is yes, the guy was just trying to sell you an overpriced filter.but you need to listen to your own body. im asuming your not new to backpacking and know how your body reacts to`wild` water.some people have hiked for decades and have had no problems(ive hiked for over 25 years including some notorious cow infested lands like the trinitys and ive never treated a drop) and have had no problems,others get guardia(or something) from tap water.let your previous experiance be your guide.
