[pct-l] San Gabriel snowpack
The snow pack in the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains is very light
and melting. No snow is visible on the south side of the San Gabriels. I
may be taking a training hike this weekend up to the PCT around Baden Powell
or San Jacinto and will report back. Big Bear area has no snow on south
facing slopes and only patchy snow at highest elevations (read above 9,000
feet) on north facing slopes.
Other reports recently posted here on the list suggest that San Jacinto still
has some snow on the PCT. No recent reports of anyone on Fuller Ridge have
been made.
Although the snow pack in the Sierras appears to be about normal this year,
the snow pack and precipitation in the southern California mountains is
significantly below normal.
A prediction on when an ice axe won't be required on Fuller Ridge or Baden
Powell is yet to be determined.
IMHO,
