I think that's "HEET", a gas-line antifreeze product that's easy to find
at gas stations and auto-supply places. HEET is methanol plus corrosion
inhibiters. There is also a product called ISO-HEET which contains
isopropanal and corrosion inhibiters. (http://www.goldeagle.com/heet/)
The thing is, I'm a little worried about the additives in HEET. What is
it, exactly, and how bad is it for me to breathe that junk? I don't
know, and while I'm not some paranoid eco-Nazi, I think I'd burn that
stuff in my alcohol stove only as a last resort. But I guess when
you're scrounging for fuel on the PCT, you might be in a last resort
situation fairly often. :-)
