[pct-l] Speaking of map and compass skills...



Any "real" compass will be ok for PCT use. Even the
small "chainring" ones or digital-watch ones would do
for deciding approximately where north is or were the
sun is going to rise the next morning (nice to get the
sun early). 
And that's about what you'll need it for except when
hiking on snow. If you want to practice a little
orienteering or be able to follow a compass course
(hope that's the right expression in English) then you
need one you can align with the grids on a map.
